July club meeting

Please join us on Monday July 17th at 7PM for our regular club meeting, held in the social hall of the Independent Hose Company, located at 310 Baughmans Lane in Frederick.  Parking and social hall entrance are in rear of building – just look for vehicles with additional antennas.  Map here: IHC Map

This month we will have a workshop presented by Brad KC3VAF regarding the use of NanoVNA test equipment.  If you have your own NanoVNA, an antenna or transmission line for testing, or similar gear please bring it along.

For a workshop, it’s best to join us in person, but if that’s not possible, you may also join via Zoom here: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/85487265741?pwd=VFErODAzeUVVVVkwQytLN2NrbVJrZz09

We welcome all members of the community to join us – you do not need to be a club member or a licensed amateur radio operator.  If you’re simply curious and want to know more, feel free to stop in.  We hope to see you there.

Field Day 2023 recap and photos

After a week of ominous forecasts, the Field Day 2023 weather could hardly have been more ideal.  Even though we officially had three transceivers plus a Get On the Air station, we had as many as eight different radios going, as folks brought out their gear to test out in a portable environment.  It was the ultimate show and tell event – better than a hamfest, as the equipment was all running!  New this year – we ran 100% battery/solar – no generator or commercial power was used. While the club generator is quiet at 2am, batteries are more quiet.

Below are some photos from the weekend, in no particular order.  If you have others to share, please email them to me.  My address is current on qrz.com.  73! Mike K3MMM

Field Day 2023!

Field Day 2023 is just around the corner on weekend of June 24th & 25th. Here is the plan as of now:

  • We’ll be operating from Remsberg Park at 7408 Holter Rd in Middletown 21769
  • Setup will begin around 9:00-ish, and we’ll start making contacts at 2:00pm, then run until Sunday afternoon.
  • We plan to run three HF stations + a Get On the Air (GOTA) station for non-licensed operators.
  • Our goal is to run 100% solar/battery, and keep the generator as a backup plan.
  • Feel free to bring a camping tent for a quick cat-nap.
  • Feel free to bring your own radio or antenna to try, or use one of the radios that we’ll have in operation. Also feel free to bring whatever gear you may have questions about, and it’s very likely that someone can help you sort it out.
  • We’re making this a pot-luck food event; if you can, please bring your favorite dish to share.

So, PLEASE plan to stop by and make some contacts, or just socialize for a while. If you have questions, feel free to send me a note – my address is current on QRZ.com.

73!
