Emergency Communications Roster – Frederick County Maryland

This was posted on the reflector, and to be honest, the response has been dismal.
4 folks out of 81 have responded. So I’ll post it here, and see what happens.

Emergency Communications Roster – Frederick County Maryland

We would like to reach out to those “Amateur Radio Operators” in the
Frederick County Area, and that have submitted “FredCo_EmComm_Form_0701
<https://frederickarc.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/FredCo_EmComm_Form_0701.pdf>
to the EOC at RACES RADIO, 340 Montevue Lane, Frederick MD 21702.

The roster has been recently digitized, and the data needs to be
updated, as it was typed in from the original forms provided by you.

We are in the process of verifying and correcting the roster. It is
more than possible that information may have changed since you submitted
your form. While this process of paperwork submission is still needed
for RACES participation, the other two services are less formal in their
requirements.

There are four reasons for this request:

1. To correct, add to information already provided, note any Call Sign,
Address, Phone, and any other information that may have changed.

2. Clean up the records. It is quite possible that we still have in our
records, persons whom may have moved, or no longer wish to participate
in any of the three EM Comms services we are concerned with – RACES /
ARES / SkyWarn

3. Requirements for participation may have changed and are listed here:

RACES – ICS 100, 200, 700 are now required, as well as supporting
documentation, and form submission to the EOC.

ARES – Less formal, Contact Information, Current E-Mail, Call Sign

SkyWarn – SkyWarn Basics I Class required for Spotter ID.

4. To note correctly whom is still active, and whom is not.

So in an effort to facilitate this update, we will broadcast this
message to the FARC reflector, and update as many as possible via e-mail.

Those that do not update here will be emailed individually, and those we
cannot reach via e-mail, we will be later contacting by phone
over the next several weeks at the numbers provided on the form.

By far, the easiest way to correct, update, information is to email me
at: “Email Link <mailto:kb3whx@kb3whx.com?Subject=EMComms_Update>” and
update any information that may have changed since their paperwork was
submitted. I will need in the email:

1. Current Call Sign
2. Full Name as on form.
3. Services for participation in: RACES / ARES / SkyWarn
a. SkyWarn Spotter ID, If available
4. Any updated Phone Numbers or Contact information
5. Any updated e-mail Addresses
6. Any new ICS Certs or other Certifications
7. Should you want to discontinue all services, and purge your records,
please inform us. (If you choose this, all information will be removed
and a re-submittal of paperwork be needed for reactivation.)

We have also created a new Frederick County Combined “emcomm reflector”
which is a US Based, controlled and moderated list designed to quickly
disseminate information regarding activations. It is a combined list
for RACES / ARES / SKYWARN, and does not allow general posting.

April Meeting

The regularly scheduled monthly meeting of the Frederick Amateur Radio Club will be held on Monday April 15th at the Independent Hose Company #1 310 Baughmans Lane (near Rosemont Ave.) in Frederick, MD starting at 7:00 PM local time.  You do not need to be a member or a licensed amateur radio operator to attend, you are welcome to come and check us out.  If you’re interested in getting your amateur radio license we can offer pointers on the process and have several members who received their first license within the last year.  For anyone who is already a licensed amateur and needs talk in assistance a few members of the club typically monitor the club repeater at 146.640 MHz (negative offset, PL tone 156.7 Hz) prior to the meeting.

Expected topics of discussion for the upcoming meeting include two upcoming public service events, the March of Dimes walk in Frederick on Sunday April 28th and the Hike Across Maryland on Saturday May 4th, as well as plans for Field Day 2013 scheduled for June 22nd and 23rd.

Upcoming Hamfests

There are two Hamfests in April that are within reasonable driving distance of Frederick.

On Saturday April 6th is the “Greater Baltimore Hamboree and Computerfest” which is held at the Maryland State Fairgrounds, 2200 York Road in Timonium, Maryland 21093.  For those who are not familiar with this location it is just north of the Baltimore beltway, and is about a one hour drive from Frederick.  The following Saturday, April 13th is the York Hamfest, which is held in Spring Grove, PA at Porters Community Fire Company, 1199 Porters Road, Spring Grove, PA 17362.  Spring Grove PA is between Hanover and York PA, and is about a 1 hour and 15 minute drive from Frederick.

Please feel free to use the comments section on this post if you would like to discuss carpooling to either of these events.
