Field Day 2013 Update – Now Last Minute Plans/Info

When: This weekend, Saturday 22 June 2013 @ 14:00 EDT to Sunday 23 June 2013 @ 14:00 EDT

What: Field Day 2013 It is looming large on the calendar. It will be upon us before we know it!!

Why : Because it is usually a great deal of fun, and a chance to show what we know.

Where:  We will be at the Walmart on 7400 Guilford Drive, in Frederick. This is just off 85.  We will be at the right end of the store as you face the front of it, just past the Lawn and Garden section.  At that end of the parking lot there are two picnic tables, and we will be setting up there.

Needed: We will need a few folks beforehand at Noon to help us set up which technically may not take that long, but mostly what is needed is folks to move items needed from the storage which is a few blocks away.  Very short haul.

Then as we set up we can begin operating at 2:00PM sharp, and let the fun ensue.  All are welcome, this is a fun and social event as well so we’d love to have any and all that can attend, even for a short while, to do so.

I am hopeful to get our hobby and our mandate of public service out there and visable, and hope to educate the public that is around us, who may or may not know what we do. This is also an opportunity for Frederick Amateur Radio Club to show the public we are here, involved in the community, and to show them what we do. So show and tell, and communications related items are welcome.  We have the use of two picnic tables, and a couple of portable tables if the space is needed. So see you there.

Its our time to shine, so hope you can show up, even for a short while, be there or be square as they say.

Talk in, monitoring, and logistics on the club repeaters:

Primary        146.640 (-) (156.7)  K3ERM Repeater
Secondary    448.425 (-) (100.0)  K3ERM Repeater

Field Day 2013

2013_Field_Day_Logo_333_X_220
Field Day 2013 will be attended by the FARC.  The location this year is a high visibility location.  We will be setting up in the parking lot of the Guilford Drive WalMart.  Because public visibility is more important to us than the number of contacts made is the reason we have chosen this location.

Setup will begin about noon time, and will have to be accomplished quickly.  The trailer will be rolled in about noon as well. This will speed the setup so that we’ll be able to get on the air at the start.

We will be staffed throughout the night, and if you have logging laptops that will be a plus as we’ll be using the N3FJP Network Logging software. Which I will bring and setup to be operating in network mode.

It will need to be covered from Noon on the 22nd till about 4PM on the 23rd.  So we need those that can do a shift to speak up and let us know when you can be there.  We are aiming for numbers this time.  Even if you can only do a few hours, that will provide breaks to those running the longer shifts.  You can email me @  kb3whx@kb3whx.com and I’ll start up a shift and coverage sheet for the event.  I will be running early on 22 June to pick up the trailer, and get it to where it’s going.

Lets make this the public event it should be, and get the word out about what we do.  Education is a wonderful thing.

Emergency Communications Roster – Frederick County Maryland

This was posted on the reflector, and to be honest, the response has been dismal.
4 folks out of 81 have responded. So I’ll post it here, and see what happens.

Emergency Communications Roster – Frederick County Maryland

We would like to reach out to those “Amateur Radio Operators” in the
Frederick County Area, and that have submitted “FredCo_EmComm_Form_0701
<https://frederickarc.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/FredCo_EmComm_Form_0701.pdf>
to the EOC at RACES RADIO, 340 Montevue Lane, Frederick MD 21702.

The roster has been recently digitized, and the data needs to be
updated, as it was typed in from the original forms provided by you.

We are in the process of verifying and correcting the roster. It is
more than possible that information may have changed since you submitted
your form. While this process of paperwork submission is still needed
for RACES participation, the other two services are less formal in their
requirements.

There are four reasons for this request:

1. To correct, add to information already provided, note any Call Sign,
Address, Phone, and any other information that may have changed.

2. Clean up the records. It is quite possible that we still have in our
records, persons whom may have moved, or no longer wish to participate
in any of the three EM Comms services we are concerned with – RACES /
ARES / SkyWarn

3. Requirements for participation may have changed and are listed here:

RACES – ICS 100, 200, 700 are now required, as well as supporting
documentation, and form submission to the EOC.

ARES – Less formal, Contact Information, Current E-Mail, Call Sign

SkyWarn – SkyWarn Basics I Class required for Spotter ID.

4. To note correctly whom is still active, and whom is not.

So in an effort to facilitate this update, we will broadcast this
message to the FARC reflector, and update as many as possible via e-mail.

Those that do not update here will be emailed individually, and those we
cannot reach via e-mail, we will be later contacting by phone
over the next several weeks at the numbers provided on the form.

By far, the easiest way to correct, update, information is to email me
at: “Email Link <mailto:kb3whx@kb3whx.com?Subject=EMComms_Update>” and
update any information that may have changed since their paperwork was
submitted. I will need in the email:

1. Current Call Sign
2. Full Name as on form.
3. Services for participation in: RACES / ARES / SkyWarn
a. SkyWarn Spotter ID, If available
4. Any updated Phone Numbers or Contact information
5. Any updated e-mail Addresses
6. Any new ICS Certs or other Certifications
7. Should you want to discontinue all services, and purge your records,
please inform us. (If you choose this, all information will be removed
and a re-submittal of paperwork be needed for reactivation.)

We have also created a new Frederick County Combined “emcomm reflector”
which is a US Based, controlled and moderated list designed to quickly
disseminate information regarding activations. It is a combined list
for RACES / ARES / SKYWARN, and does not allow general posting.
